Sho Dozono
|
|
A strong advocate of diversity and equal opportunity, Sho Dozono is a respected civic and business leader, devoting his time and energy in service to the community.
Sho’s roots stem back to his days of teaching and coaching at Portland’s Grant High School. His support of schools has remained a high priority. When the Portland area schools were faced with major funding crises in 1996, Sho mobilized 30,000 citizens to March for our Schools. This community-wide effort raised $11M for the schools and saved countless teaching jobs.
Sho Dozono has been in the travel industry for 30 plus years and since 1987 has served as president and chief executive officer of Azumano Travel. Azumano Travel and its subsidiary company, Premier Gateway, are currently ranked as #1 in the State of Oregon among diversity-owned businesses, #25 in the nation among diversity-owned businesses. Dozono has grown this business from a small company with only a handful of employees into a multi-branch enterprise whose combined staff now numbers 250. With offices throughout Oregon, Washington and Alaska, Azumano’s footprint covers the Pacific Northwest.
In October of 2001, Sho and Loen Dozono inspired millions of Americans by organizing 1,000 citizens to take part in the “Flight For Freedom” to New York City as a show of support for the victims of September 11. These volunteers flew cross-country to connect with New Yorkers and help jump-start the local economy. A wounded New York opened its arms to the Freedom Fliers from around Oregon.
In the aftermath of the catastrophic tsunami that struck South Asia on Dec. 26, 2004, Sho and Loen Dozono launched a national, industry-wide “Flight Of Friendship” to Thailand. The project was a people-to-people effort designed to help jump start the return of tourists to the tsunami-affected areas by giving travel industry professionals and other key individuals a proper perspective.
